LEXINGTON, KY October 12, 2022 — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation named TO THE MARKET a finalist in the 23rd Annual Citizens Awards, a long-standing program that honors businesses for the impact they make in communities around the world. TO THE MARKET was nominated for the Best Economic Opportunity and Empowerment Program - alongside finalists IBM, Citi, and Chevron - for its efforts in Driving Job Sustainment for High Risk Artisans During Global Uncertainty.
“I am honored to see TO THE MARKET recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation,” says founder and CEO Jane Mosbacher Morris. “It is a testament to the strength of TO THE MARKET’s business model, allowing businesses and consumers to harness their purchasing power for good through a syndicated supply chain. During COVID’s most challenging moments, TO THE MARKET’s community - from investors to teammates to suppliers - sprung into action to deliver life-saving PPE while simultaneously creating hundreds of thousands of hours of fairly paid work. We are taking every lesson learned from COVID to reimagine supply chains that are more ethical, sustainable, and resilient.”
This annual awards program recognizes the most innovative and impactful corporate citizenship initiatives raising the bar on social responsibility and accelerating momentum for a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.
TO THE MARKET, a software platform enabling transparency in the retail supply chain, pivoted their business during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist manufacturing partners across the globe facing canceled orders and job insecurity. TO THE MARKET received orders for millions of units of PPE and in turn, sent purchase orders to more than 20 unique suppliers to aggregate production and prevent job loss, including in the United States. Many of these suppliers were women-owned or operated in high-risk environments with little to no safety net. From one order, alone, TO THE MARKET engaged six suppliers - Bangladesh, Ghana, Guatemala, Kenya, Malaysia, and Palestine - creating 217,240 total hours of fair work and employing 1,013 people.
The winners of the 23rd Annual Citizens Awards will be announced during the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s Corporate Citizenship Conference: Business Solves on November 16, 2022. Learn more about the awards program and register to attend the event here.
